Saturday 28th July – Saturday 4th August 2012
Francis’ Workshop is aimed at people familiar with his paintings who would welcome the opportunity to work alongside him in a relaxing and stimulating holiday environment.
The ambience created by living and working in such beautiful situation as ‘Maison Verte’ should lend itself to an outpouring of the kind of happy, vibrant paintings which characterise his work.
Students will be encouraged to explore and interpret their surroundings and shown how to get the most out of the extensive range of acrylic and other water-based paints available.
An awareness and appreciation of the tactile nature of the paint surface is a key element in Francis’ work and he will divulge many of the variations he has developed over many years experimentation,
The morning session each day will focus on a different aspect of his distinctive approach to making a painting.
Students will then be encouraged to develop these ideas and insights and as the week progresses to look for ways to develop and enhance their own creative process.
At every step through the creative journey, Francis will share with the group his own very personal techniques and working processes.
Francis hopes to foster a studio atmosphere akin to the old French ‘Atelier’ system where students would work alongside an older painter and thus learn the ‘tricks of the trade’
There are no set entry levels for the course. Beginner painters who are inspired to pick up a brush as a reaction to seeing his work should enjoy it as much as more established artists who are looking for advice on how to move on to the next level.
For many years the Head of Art at Aberdeen Grammar School, in 2001, Francis gave up a very successful teaching career to become a full-time professional artist. He is now one of Scotland’s most popular and best-selling painters, exhibiting widely at home and abroad. Since 2001 he has had exhibitions throughout the UK and also New York, Dublin, Belfast, Paris, Munich, Michigan and Seattle.
Recent polls published in the press in Scotland and Ireland have both placed him in their lists of top 50 best selling artists, and he is one of only a few artists who has work in the National collections of both countries.
You will soon be able so see these paintings on the BBC’s new website cataloguing the Nations paintings, ‘Your Paintings’

His best-selling prints have found their way into a host of public buildings such as airports and hospitals and his original work is increasingly sought after by large corporate collectors including John Lewis plc and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
His website www.francisboag.com offers a more extensive insight to the works and thoughts of this acclaimed Scottish Artist.
